Guest Information & FAQs
What events will be taking place over the weekend?
We are excited to celebrate across two days:
Friday, September 5th: A Welcome Party for our international arrivals — drinks and nibbles to kick off the weekend.
Saturday, September 6th: Our Wedding Ceremony and Reception at Hopetoun House in South Queensferry, about 30 minutes outside of Edinburgh city centre.
When should I plan to arrive and depart?
If you are able to join us on Friday, we recommend arriving in time for the Welcome Party that evening. You are welcome to depart as early as Sunday the 7th — or should you choose to stay longer and enjoy Scotland, we certainly wouldn’t blame you!
Are children invited?
As much as we love all your babies, this will be a no children wedding so that everyone can enjoy a night of celebration and being present on the day.
What is the dress code?
Black Tie.
Gentlemen: We encourage men to wear tuxedos or kilts donned with Bonnie Prince Charlie jackets and bow ties (no trews or suits, please).
Ladies: Elegant evening attire. Our celebration will begin in the evening, so we’d love for women’s attire to reflect just that: long, formal evening dresses. We kindly ask guests to avoid light-colored and cocktail dresses.
When should I book my travel, and where should I stay?
We recommend booking your travel as soon as possible. The closest airport is Edinburgh Airport (EDI) which has many direct flights from NYC and other international hubs. We have shared a few of our favorite hotel options in Edinburgh, but it’s a vibrant, metropolitan city with plenty of other wonderful hotels and Airbnbs, as well. We invite you to choose what best fits your plans.
Will I need special travel documents?
Yes — please plan ahead:
UK entry permission (ETA): The UK requires many visitors to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before traveling. This visa is eligible for 2 years so you can never be too early to apply! You can check whether you need one and apply directly through the official UK government website.
Passport: Please make sure your passport is valid during the duration of your trip. Many travelers follow the common guideline of having at least 6 months of validity remaining as an extra buffer to avoid issues.
How do I get from Edinburgh Airport to my accommodations?
Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is very easy to get in and out of. Taxis are readily available, and the public trams are reliable and travel directly into the city centre. You may try Uber, but beware that availability may be inconsistent.
Will transportation be provided between events?
We’ll be providing transportation options to and from Hopetoun House on Saturday. More details (pick-up locations, timing, and return options) to follow.
Friday night’s event will not have transportation provided, though the venue is centrally located and walkable for many, or may require a short taxi.
What is the weather like in Edinburgh that time of year?
While September is the tail end of summer, Edinburgh can feel cool, especially in the evenings. Generally expect daytime temperatures around 50-60° F / 10-15° C, with evenings dipping into the 40-50° F / 5-10° C range.
Though Saturday’s Dinner & Reception will be indoors, parts of the day may lead you to be outside so be prepared to dress accordingly.
